Your Authentic Self has no Competition

The best advice I ever received is something that I’ve paraphrased now; which is, if you are your authentic self you have no competition. When I was starting out I was trying to emulate everybody. Trying to be like this person and trying to be like that business and do this. We see that now, see that with case studies.

You try to be Zappos in business because they’re awesome at what they do. Well you can’t necessarily be that, you can be the best you and not in a cheesy way. You have abilities, you have liabilities and assets in your business. Look at those assets to see what you can capitalize on. Not necessarily because the person down the street’s done it, but because you have different strengths.

So be you and then you don’t have competition. That was my favourite piece of advice.
