What Should You Do With Your Other Skills?

I would encourage them to challenge their employees and challenge their team members and issue an invitation and encourage them to be part of something. I really think when we incorporate a mission and we say, “Here’s where we’re going, let’s do this together.” I feel like people are much better employees, they’re much better initiators, better managers. There is a lot of creativity in that as well, and there can be a lot of independence in that. It is not so much about always working for yourself. If there is a reason why we do what we do, that is so much more powerful than just going to work everyday “because I go to work everyday.” I found that freedom in entrepreneurship, in building something for myself. There is more than one way to get there. Ultimately, it is about life, work, satisfaction, and making something that matters, and serving our customers.

One of the things that I believe is that if you’re good at something, you’re probably good at something else. That something else is often where your small business or your entrepreneurial start-up, or whatever it is is going to lie. There is often a process of skill transformation that happens with new entrepreneurs. It’s not so much about going back to school or developing a new competency. It’s about focusing on the skill and training you have, and the applying it maybe in a different way.  How can you use the training you’ve gained all your life, and your degree? Ask yourself what you can do with it. It is not about developing a new skill, but thinking about using it in a different way.
